biography

Alastair currently works in NHS Tayside is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. 

Alastair is a largely self-taught artist and enjoys capturing landscapes around Scotland. He enjoys the challenge of painting portraits and attempting to capture a likeness.

Alastair’s ‘Self Portrait in Green Scrubs’ featured on Landscape Artist of the Year was part of Portrait Artist of the Year: The Exhibition at Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in 2022. He has received commissions from clients within the UK and abroad and, in 2018, he undertook a portrait painting course at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. He has featured on the V&A Dundee website in the article ‘Making V&A Dundee: An artist’s museum’.

His painting ‘Trauma’ (painted during the COVID-19 pandemic) has been featured on numerous online and print media including the BBC and the book ‘Portraits for NHS Heroes’. It is on display at the Surgeon’s Hall Museum, Edinburgh.
