Alison Whateley

biography
Alison  is a contemporary textile and mixed media artist who works from her studio just outside Exeter, Devon.
Despite  having a love of fabric and stitch from an early age, she only discovered textiles as an art form  when she was in her late forties.
Alison has always had a great appreciation of the natural world, and this now inspires her art. Her representational work is characterised by her use of sheer fabrics which add subtle tones and atmosphere to her pieces.  Although mainly using textiles, she does also incorporate mixed media elements into her work to add extra texture and interest.
Her work continues to evolve, and recent additions to her portfolio include abstract works  where her use of mixed media, colour and texture is more pronounced.
Alison’s work has been exhibited at the Society For Embroidered works’ first international contemporary stitched art exhibition ‘Stitched Art is Art’ at the Clerkenwell Gallery, London in 2019, and more recently at the 2023 ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. She was also longlisted for the 2023 VAA professional Artists Awards.
Alison is a member of the Devon Artist Network and the Society for Embroidered Work.
