Brendan Megarity

Brendan produces oil paintings and drawings whose main subjects are the figure and portraiture. The initial starting point for these large works are small studies quickly sketched in Indian ink the marks of which are blown up in scale onto a gesso board. From this foundation of marks a lengthy process of applying and removing paint begins using a variety of tools and blades. They are experiments in the use of colour and mark making but with the intention of retaining the carefree but honesty of mark in the original small sketch.
