David Newens is a traditional oil painter, currently concentrating on commissioned portraits. As a great admirer of artists of the 17th century Golden Age of Dutch painting such as Vermeer, Rembrandt and de Hooch, his primary concerns are the same: compostion; how light tracks across and defines forms; and colour harmony. David has exhibited widely, including: 8 Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, 16 Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibitions, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the New English Art Club. Portrait commissions have included cabinet ministers, leaders of business and academia, members of the House of Lords,etc.
