Lorna Hamilton

Lorna-Hamilton Landscape artist of the year series
biography

Lorna trained as a realist painter, graduating in 1995 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Lorna has been working as a full-time artist for 28 years. She has gained much recognition for her nature-based art, exhibiting in shows in London, Ireland, and the United States. Her work is also represented in public collections in Northern Ireland and a significant private collection in New York.

One thing which is evident in Lorna’s work is a sense of freedom and bountiful joyous colour. Someone watching her as she worked once noted “it is like she is dancing while she paints”. For Lorna this outward expression of ‘the dance’ is a visual depiction of the inner process of painting, the release of control and expectation and the embrace of a beautiful waltz into the unknown.

Lorna takes much of her inspiration from nature, and as much as she loves wild places, she has developed a profound connection and appreciation for the everyday landscape. Her practice draws her into the presence of wonder, where time slows down, allowing her to notice greatness in the ordinary and insignificant.
