Nathaniel Fowles

Nathaniel predominantly paints in oil and acrylic, depicting landscapes and scenes which captivate his imagination. He is drawn by the history, narrative or character of a place and seeks to capture a sense of mood and light within his work.
Having studied Fine Art at KIAD, Canterbury, he spent 10 years working as a professional artist before moving into teaching. Now living in Sussex with his wife and children, he works part time as a supply teacher, enabling him once again to focus on his work as an artist. He has spent time experimenting with different media, inspired by the imaginary worlds created by his children, as well as urban and rural landscapes.
Nathaniel has exhibited at the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in 2021 and was shortlisted for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in 2022.
Being on Landscape Artist of the year was a refreshing experience for Nathaniel, helping him to find new ways of working within a fixed timeframe as, due to his neurodiversity, completing work has often been a challenge for him. It has also encouraged him to venture out from the safety of his studio to paint outside from direct observation.
