Rebecca Howard

biography

Rebecca first trained as an Illustrator at Falmouth College of Art. This beginning as an illustrator also informed her early years as a painter, leading her to develop a narrative style to her work and arguably still influences her painting today.

She has been painting now as a landscape artist for 15 years. Her work is heavily influenced by the natural environment and often begins with a pattern or collection of colours in the landscape which catch her eye. She responds to these patterns by creating oil paintings based on what she sees but there is also an element of interpretation which can sometimes produce unusual and exciting results.

Her love of the natural environment has also led her to explore varied and dynamic land formations, seeking out the unusual as well as the expected landscapes. They challenge the viewer to look deeper into their surroundings, which  can ordinarily be overlooked in the fast-paced world we now live in. The hope  is that when looking at her work viewers are transported to these havens for nature and take the time to reflect on what their see.
