Ruth Swain

Ruth works in oils and watercolour. She worked as an art director in advertising and likes to use visual humour in her portraits and still life paintings. A professional artist based in Oxford, she works on many commissions often involving people and their relationship with books. Her still life paintings often portray the many jobs that get left for women to do – such as replacing the loo roll or putting away the iron. She tries to find beauty in the everyday.
