From a background in advertising, Stuart's work is distinctly painterly in its composition.
Stuart has worked in the advertising industry as a designer and illustrator for over 30 years and was trained at Plymouth College of Art and Design. He works in private studios in the village of Broadway, Worcestershire, a place famed for its artistic heritage and surrounding beauty.
Stuart’s painting practice is based primarily in portraiture and, in seeking to produce work that resonates with realism, combines interesting marks, textures, and colour and offers something unique that he believes, in this world of the ubiquitous ‘selfie’, photography cannot.
Stuart was shortlisted for the Ruth Borchard Exhibition 2021 and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters 2021, was a finalist in the Jackson Painting Prize 2021, and has won back-to-back prizes at the Broadway Craft Show and Broadway Arts Festival.
