This painting comes out of an ongoing series of painterly ‘trompe l’oeil’ works, expanding the artist’s still-life repertoire. “Most contain references to artists I admire, but above all, the component parts function as visual props to define and occupy the shallow space and to play with the disconcerting illusion of unsupported mass.”
